The Intern's Speech

Life in Microsoft as an Intern

I joined MS-IT as an intern on the 20th of May. Quite like any other intern was awe struck the moment I stepped out of the bus and saw the bold Microsoft title on top of the IDC building. Finally it took a guard’s pestering for an ID-card to bring me out of this lotus land of mine. Then came another shuttle to take me to the MS-IT building. Wading through this mini Amazon forest I finally reached the MS-IT reception.

The 1st thing that caught my eye was its astonishing resemblance to a Delhi metro station. I mean the gates. Once through the barricade there were these amazing touch laptops. I was filled with hope that probably I would be given one. Though this hope did not last long, as I was given an obese plug n play machine. Plug and play because it has no battery in it. By the time day 1 came to an end I had familiarized myself with the free coffee, pool, table tennis and the much needed taxi rides.

Every day ever since has been simply amazing. Meeting new people, learning new stuff and how can I not mention the extremely perplex Microsoft argot. Thankfully a fellow intern told me about this site called MS collections, how else would have I ever decrypted most of the calendars* here which are predominantly either WFH or OOF**.

But these 5 weeks were not just about technical stuff. They have morphed me into a more confident person. And most of all have made me realize the power of dreams. Once a mere entity in my dreams, today this ID-card is a reality.

I would like to end with this beautiful nazm by Javed Akhtar Sahab:

ख्वाब हैं तो मंजिलें हैं...
मंजिले हैं तो फासले हैं...
फासले हैं तो रास्ते हैं...
रास्ते हैं तो मुश्किलें हैं...
मुश्किलें हैं तो हौसला है..
हौसला है तो विश्वास है....

Thank you!

*here i am refering to every employee's outlook calender.
**WFH: Work From Home
    OOF: Out of Office
