A trivial question which anyone with rudimentary knowledge of optics can answer. A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object.
Ironically many consider it as their soul mate. A soul mate who is absent in the darkest of hours. A soul mate which continuously keeps morphing while one moves from one light source to another on the road of life. And in the most timorous manner hides under one's feet when the scorching sun unleashes it's terror.
It owes it's genesis to an obstruction. A massive collision between lightening fast
photons and the object. Try and grasp the fact that this progeny of conflict follows us almost everywhere.
Looking at the positive side, it is this shadow which caresses away the burning heat when under a tree during summers. Interestingly something which has no existence of it's own has the power to modulate temperature. Ponder over the previous thought with your physics caps off. It is baffling to absorb the fact that something so insignificant can have such a profound effect on it's surroundings.
On an astronomical scale the shadow of the moon on the sun or that of the earth on the moon results into some spectacular scenes with some interesting astrological consequences.
But the question still remains unanswered. It looked pretty bagatelle when I began but the more I think the more convoluted this appears to me. Probably you should also give it a try. Why do we have shadows ?
